Big-group finance experience, for independent operators

I’m Iltaf Mohammed, a chartered accountant and the founder of Taff Accounts. I help retail and hospitality businesses see what each site is making, and make better decisions with their numbers.

My background

I trained at a Big 4 firm, where I spent four years in audit, before moving into commercial finance. I’ve now spent over 10 years in finance, most of it in commercial roles inside retail, forecourt and food-to-go businesses.

As Head of Commercial Finance UK for a group of around 1,100 sites and 12 brands, I led a commercial team across fuel, convenience and food-to-go. I owned the monthly board pack and the three-year forecast, introduced quarterly reforecasting and a 13-week rolling cashflow, built the pricing, wage and loyalty-scheme models behind the group’s strategy, led the commercial work to move more than 100 forecourts to a new brand, and supported M&A work including a £2.2bn deal.

Earlier, at a regional supermarket chain, I built the KPI reporting its store managers used and looked after the labour model, the biggest cost in the business. I’m a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).

Why I started Taff Accounts

Large groups have a finance team telling them which sites make money, where margin is leaking and what the next site needs to deliver. Most independent operators, even with five or ten sites, get a set of accounts once a year and a VAT return every quarter.

Taff Accounts closes that gap. Your compliance is done properly, and you get the numbers and advice that used to be available only to big groups, at a price that makes sense for an owner-managed business.
